Meanwhile competition for parking spaces on street is set to become hotly contested as Council rolls out the EV charging stations, grants are now available for share e-bike infrastructure. The NSW Government announced $6.6million grant program for up to $200,000 per application for opportunities for e bike sharing parking facilities and e bike rider education. The share bike operators are ultimately funding this program through the 60 centfee paid to Transport for NSW on each shared e-bike trip. Transport for NSW aims to deliver 250 parking bays for 2,500 shared e-bikes this year.

This new Sharing Scheme Grant Program proposes to allow Councils to deliver marked bays for e-bikes on streets and in appropriate zones at the kerbside or wharves for example. Councils and other NSW Government land managers (such as NP&Ws) will have the powers to set parking zones for the share bikes and to penalise shared e-bike operators if they aren’t used. The operators consider that these parking bays, one car space can accommodate 10 e-bikes, should be numerous with 200m between each parking bay.
