How are our street trees?

A note from Evelyn, a long time resident passionate about our street trees.

Look at our Trees! Take a long hard and critical look at the trees in your street and what do you see? If you are lucky you will see a line of large and beautiful trees. They may be all of one type but in some areas they will probably be of various species and maturities. They beautify the area, maintain the value of all the properties, improve the environment with shade and space for birds and animals to thrive and also make a substantial contribution to locking up carbon as well as reducing the temperature by up to ten degrees cooler in the summer.

If you are not so lucky however, you will see that there are many vacant spaces along the streets, many small cheap shrubby plants that lack visual presence, or trees that are not thriving or are damaged in some way or even dead.

If you think your street could be improved by street tree planting then contact the Council and ask them to plant a tree from the long list they have. If you want one removed, like this dead tree pictured call the Council and request a replacement.
