Despite the NSW Government introducing the container recycling ‘return and earn’ scheme and the banning some single use plastic items such a bags and straws Sydney harbour beaches, including our own Manly and Little Manly Coves have the highest recording of microplastics per sqm in the country. It has been a while since Manly won a Clean Beach award, so a group of locals associated with the Surfrider Foundation Australia have taken things into their own hands and created the Adopt a Beach program. Check out their website for details and head down to your adopted beach and do more than just think about reducing plastic on our beaches.
